We currently support approximately 375 children in Bospo and surrounding villages who are not able to afford English classes and tutoring to supplement their education. We provide them with free lessons in Khmer, mathematics, English and computer as well as recreational activities. At present KNGO employs 5 full time teachers, 1 part time teacher and 1 part time computer teacher and relies on the support of KNGO Australia and KNGO Germany including the generosity of volunteers who come to KNGO and volunteer their time to teach English. Classrooms have been built using funds received from KNGO Australia and donors from all over the world.
KNGO provide supplementary classes, outside of school hours, for the children of Bospo and surrounding villages to attend free of charge. Classes operate Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am-11am and 1pm-6pm. Lessons support the government curriculum in Khmer literacy, mathematics and English literacy. Students are evaluated and placed into one of six levels to suit their learning needs.
KNGO utilizes the series Let’s Go, published by Oxford University Press, to teach English. KNGO customizes the curriculum to suit the teaching environment and student needs. KNGO supplements its use of Let’s Go with testing for comprehension, review, and extra practice. All course material is taught in English so that students can become comfortable using English in their daily lives. Students are assessed monthly to monitor their progress. KNGO welcomes volunteers in the classrooms to assist the regular Khmer teachers with their duties. KNGO staff and students can use the opportunity to interact with native English speakers and improve their English. Volunteers always teach in conjunction with a full or part-time employee of KNGO, or on a case-by-case basis with the approval of the Executive Director.
